Moderate rot on both sides of join can be repaired with permanent filler, which is a lot quicker and cheaper than replacing both boards. The nails on the right side of the join have rusted out so that the unsupported fascia has dropped. First task is to raise the right side, nail it, and then nail left side to avoid future problems with rusting nails there. Then fill and sand join as in second picture, ready for paint preparation. .
